Chicken and the Egg Puzzle
In 1940 and again in 1946,
C. Carey Cloud made the Chicken and the Egg Puzzle for
Cracker Jack.
Can you put the rooster back in the egg? To play, simply press out the seven pieces of the rooster,
and arrange them so every piece of the rooster fits snuggly in the egg. The solution is shown at the bottom of the page.
Instructions as printed on the puzzle:
The cocky rooster hatched from the egg.... Can you put him back in the egg where he came from?
It can be done without overlapping any of seven pieces.
Chicken and the Egg Puzzle - 1940 version
Printed on cardstock, and perforated so it folds into thirds to easily fit in the box of
Cracker Jack. The reverse side has no printing. It's approximately 8 inches long, and 1
⅝ inches high.
Chicken and the Egg Puzzle - 1946 version
Printed on cardstock with red and green ink. The chicken and the egg is printed on the front side, with the instructions are printed on the
reverse. It measures approximately 2 ¼ inches wide, and 3 ⅓ inches tall.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
I don't know, but the solution to the Chicken and the Egg puzzle is below.
