C. Carey Cloud was a member of the Palette and Chisel Club of Chicago, and the Chicago Art Guild, at one time was vice-president. He was a member of the Brown County Art Gallery Association and three times president. He has works hanging in many private collections, among them, the Ford collection.
C. Carey Cloud's paintings can roughly be divided into two categories.
His earlier works, before 1964, were generally painted in oils. Often depicting rural scenes, before the complications of modern life. Painted in a simplified style, with a brighter palette than his later works.
Paintings after 1964, often done with acrylics, are painted with great detail. The style, which C. Carey Cloud calls, Realism in Depth. The scenes are generally about the ghosts of the past. Dilapidated barns, and other old building, are shown in amazing detail. You can read about Carey Cloud's Realism in Depth paintings by Dr. Karl Bookwalter from Indiana University.
